Zendesk Guide

Docs of a feather migrate together.

The migrator suite pulls your existing help center into HelpDocs. Connect the platform you're on now, or bring PDFs, documents, a CSV, or a whole website. Your categories come with you.

Connect it, drop it, or crawl it.

Pick where your content lives now and see how it connects, and what you need to have to hand before you start.

HelpDocs vs Zendesk

A safe landing pad.

An import is rarely a one-off. Run it again when the old system moves on, and choose what should happen to what you already have.

Create new content and leave everything already in your knowledge base untouched. The safe default, and where most first runs start.

Nothing you already had is touched.

Coming from a specific tool? Our head-to-head comparisons cover what changes when you switch, and the knowledge base software roundup covers the wider market if you're still deciding.

Use the power of HelpDocs AI.

Some content has no clean export to give you. For those, AI reads the source and works out where one article ends and the next begins.

PDF files

Upload a stack of PDFs and AI reads each one, splits it into separate articles, and cleans up the print formatting on the way in. A 60-page handbook arrives as articles, not one wall of text.

Needs AI drafting enabled. Priced flat per document.

A whole website

Point the crawler at a live help site and AI extracts one article per page, keeping the content and dropping the navigation, headers and cookie banners around it.

The fallback when the tool you are leaving has no usable export.

Everything else imports without touching your credits. Platform connections, CSVs, and Word or Markdown documents are split on their own headings, which is deterministic and free. See what else HelpDocs AI does once your content is in.

And it's just as easy to leave.

A migrator suite is worth very little if it only points one way. Your content is yours, so every article, file and category can be pulled back out whenever you want, without asking us first.

ZIP

A structured export

Your categories come out as folders, and every article is a folder of its own holding an index.html beside a metadata.yaml.

CSV

One spreadsheet

The whole knowledge base as a single CSV, which is also the format most other tools will read straight back in.

DOCX & PDF

Documents to hand on

Articles rendered as Word documents or PDFs. Large runs render in the background and email you when the file is ready.

FILES

Every uploaded file

Separately, a zip of every image, video and attachment you have ever uploaded to your knowledge base.

All of it is available over the same API your knowledge base runs on, so an export can be scripted rather than clicked. No support ticket, no retention period, no exit fee.

FAQ

Migration questions

How long does a migration take?
Most platform imports finish in minutes rather than days, because we pull straight from the other tool's API instead of asking you to export and re-upload. The slow part is usually finding the API key.
Will it keep my categories and structure?
Yes. Platform imports bring categories and articles across together, so you land with the structure you already had rather than a flat list to re-sort by hand.
What if my current tool has no export?
Point the crawler at your live help site and AI extracts an article per page. It is the fallback for platforms whose export is unusable, and it needs no API key or admin access.
Can I run an import more than once?
Yes, and you choose what happens each time: add alongside what is already there, update matching articles in place, or replace everything. Replace deletes all existing content first, so it asks you to confirm.
Does importing cost AI credits?
Platform, CSV and document imports are free. The two AI-powered routes, PDF files and the website crawl, use credits because a model reads and restructures each page.
